Burnett Down is a brainchild of the CIA. She exists only as the second personality of Maria Azul. Maria still holds a British passport for Burnett Down, Yet all U.S. Governmental records state Burnett Down died in 1999. Maria was an experimental victim of the CIA during the Cold War. She was brainwashed by her former lover, Dr. Tyrantin, a CIA psychiatrist who developed and manipulated a second personality in Maria through three intensive years of hypnosis. Dr. Tyrantin was a low ranking member of the CIA’s top-secret MK-Ultra mind control project. He resented his superiors’ power over him and jumped at the chance to prove his genius. This he achieved with his creation of the perfect spy: Burnett Down.
Maria Azul suffered an abusive childhood. She experienced prolonged periods of isolation, locked in the attic by a cruel stepfather. She created Burnett to take over when a situation seemed unbearable. Maria’s lover Dr. Tyrantin, a selfish, power hungry man gleefully betrayed her when he discovered Maria’s duel personality during a trauma-therapy hypnosis session. While she was in a deep hypnotic sleep Burnett Down was brought back to life; a second personality that was heartless, cruel and able to tolerate the harshest conditions. Burnett Down was trained to deliver top-secret messages, weapons, and, of course the personal cocaine stash of the government’s top undercover infiltrators all across Eastern Europe.
Trained to kill a man with her bare hands she committed horrific crimes under Dr. Tyrantin’s direction. She worked alone for years, fearless and undetected. Maria was completely unaware of Burnett’s CIA involvement thus could not reveal her secrets. Maria only knew that she occasionally delivered sealed messages to agents in Eastern Europe, a patriotic duty she took pride in.
Dr. Tyrantin rose in rank as he had planned. Without him Burnett Down was inaccessible to the CIA. He refused to reveal the specialized signal that would transform Maria into Burnett, making himself indispensable to the group. It wasn’t until Dr. Tyrantin died of unknown causes in 1999 that Maria regained control of her body, or, almost...
By this time Burnett Down had grown strong and Maria was not able to quiet her as she had done before she had met Dr. Tyrantin. Burnett was now as real as Maria Azul. Burnett’s bloodthirsty desire for action and deceit often threw Maria into inhumane rages causing her to commit seemingly senseless crimes. To appease Burnett, thus avoiding these uncanny outbreaks, Maria sought out an outlet for speed, deception, and brutal physical confrontation. This is how she found the Derby Liberation Front and this is how the DLF discovered the heartless, cruel demon that is BURNETT DOWN.
