February 21, 2007 -- Seattle's roller derby league speeds into its third season
By NWsource.com staff write Geoff Carter, this article opens with the following paragraph:
"Look, you guys need to get into flat-track roller derby this year. That's all there is to it. I've spent too many hours fuming silently by the water cooler, listening to you complain about baseball teams that can't field, football teams that don't repeat and basketball teams who won't pay their own way. Meanwhile, I've been following a sport that routinely delivers fast, tough, heart-stopping gameplay. I follow a sport whose Seattle league is staffed by unpaid volunteers who sink every last dime back into the spectator experience. Most importantly, I follow a sport that has delivered what many have previously considered improbable: a winning Seattle team."
We couldn't have said it better ourselves. Get thee to a bout! Read the Article

They are the winningest team this town has ever had, and are responsible for empowering the young by sponsoring a junior league, The Seattle Derby Brats. When you're shopping for season tickets for 2008, consider roller derby." Qow! Thanks, Cathy!

November 26, 2007 -- Rollergirls love our coffee!
"The Bird on a Wire crew takes wholly justifiable pride in the considered and thoughtful way they pull espressos and foam lattes; according to the café's Web site, coffee should be "smooth, velvety (and) like a chenille blanket on a naked bum." And it is ... um, I mean, I imagine that it is." NWsource.com writer Geoff Carter reviews the tasty coffee and lovely ambiance at Bird on a Wire, a West Seattle coffeeshop owned and operated by our very own Skate Trooper. Nice work!
