Charity Brawl a Smashing Success
The Rat City Rollergirls played their biggest venue yet and blew the doors of last season's attendance records at their Charity Brawl and Exhibition Bout at the Everett Events Center
on March 4, 2005. An estimated 4,500 people came to watch RCRG's four teams duke it out on behalf of their favorite non-profit organization. Sockit Wenches won first place and came away with the top prize of $1,000, which the team gave to the White Center Community Development Association. Grave Danger arrived in second place, and gave $500 to Girls on the Run. Derby Liberation Front came in third and gave $250 to Cocoon House. Throttle Rockets came in fourth and gave $250 to the Angel Care Foundation. The event marked the Rat City Rollergirls' first bout north of the Seattle area. They were joined in Everett by many of their loyal fans from the 2005 season that made the trip, and were also able to expose a whole new group of fans to the exciting sport of roller derby. Included in the night's festivities, was a battle to win "Last Woman Standing" featuring the Rat City Rollergirls against Vancouver Canada's breakout flat track roller derby league, the Terminal City Rollergirls! The last woman standing was Jackie Hammer, Sockit Wench, Rat City Rollergirls, USA. Did you attend the Charity Brawl and Exhibition Bout in Everett? If so, we'd love to hear from you. Take our survey here.
The Rat City Rollergirls All-Star team were largely regarded as the fairy tale story of the Dust Devil tournament in Tucson, Ariz. — the nation's first
flat-track derby championship. The fierce and beautiful Texas Rollergirls won the championship, and Rat City missed making the final four by only two points in a
nail-biter against Arizona Roller Derby's Tent City Terrors, leaving them in fifth place out of 20 teams . However, Rat City's team didn't leave Tucson without earning loads
of new fans, who admired them for their athleticism, style of play and their sportsmanship. They also didn't leave without breaking the score board — Rat City defeated the
Sin City rollergirls of Las Vegas 202-67 and learned an important lesson in the process: Scoreboards only go up to 199! Congratulations to the national champion Texas Rollergirls
and all of the leagues who participated in this historic event.
Skate-a-Thon a Success!
Thanks to all of you who participated in the February Skate-a-Thon at Bellevue Skate King to help send our traveling team to the Dust Devil in Tucson, Ariz.
Between the thousands of laps skated, a tasty bake sale and our generous donors and sponsors, the Skate-a-Thon helped put the "travel" in traveling team.
A special thanks to Bellevue Skate King for allowing us to go round and round for the evening.
